Most of the evaluation of scratches was performed visually by inspectors, because  it was sometimes impossible to see the fine scratches unless the light was adjusted accordingly.

Issues associated with evaluating scratch

In the scratch evaluation using the above method, the criteria for judging scratches changes depending on the inspector, and the evaluation result of the scratch is not stable.

Upgrade traditional scratch tester with our imaging technology and algorithms

In this case, we have developed a CMOS sensor, an equipment to image the target workpiece by integrating the lighting direction at high speed, and an algorithm to photograph the scratch part clearly to solve the issue. We upgrade an imaging method that generates shape (unevenness) and texture (patterns on the surface of the workpiece) images by analyzing multiple images illuminated from different directions.
